Race Report by John Sainz

June 15, 2013: Great to be back at the track after a weekend off. Weather was very nice, and the track was worked into shape by John Diotte and his crew, after a week of heavy rain. Our annual fund raising charity race for St. Judes Childrens Hospital was run tonight, and it was last years winner, Colin Belanger setting the fast qualifying lap and taking the win. Fun time had by all the participants, and we would like to thank all of you who made donations for this great cause, we were able to raise $650!!! Look forward to doing it again next year. Thanks also to the World Formula Modified Tour for racing with us tonight. Always fun to watch these guys out there on the track.

The evenings features began with the Mediums class, where Roger Belanger had won the last 4 in a row. Roger, starting on the front row, and leading some laps, until Dennis the Menace Matthews took over the top spot, and ended the streak at four. It was the first win in Mediums for Dennis, and Roger held on for second with Dan the Man Hoeffner taking third. Great race! In the Lights class, Patrick Dempsey picked up the win, his first of the year, over last weeks winner, Mackenzie Hasenflue, who was right on his rear bumper. Mike Robson came in third. In the Heavys class, Scott Thomas picked up his third win of the season, with Alex the Axeman Wanerus taking second. Thomas Radivoy in a good run, came in third. Our Senior Stock class had Mark Stanley, back after a few weeks off, pick up his first win of the season. Kevin Morgan also returned to Oakland Valley Speedway, to grab a second place finish, and it was good to see Don Potter back at the track, and taking his third place finish. We had a couple of Senior Clones visiting with us tonight, and Roger Swanson took the win over Arthur Coggins. Hope to see them back soon. We would like to get this class rolling, so if anyone wants to get racing wiuth out the higher expense of a Flathead or Animal engine, see us about what you would need to get started in this class!

In our Champ classes, starting with Junior Sportsman Champ 1, Robert the Rocket Mattera ,picked up what seemed to be his 100th win in his racing career. It was his fifth win in as many races this year, always showing the fast way around our one fifth mile track. Great job Robert! Michael Jacques was right behind Robert for second place , with Arlen Devantoy taking third. Dominick Abbatiello was our Junior Champ 1 Clone racer. In Junior Champ, Anthony Wood looked good out there and picked up his fourth win of the season, with Samantha Mattera second and Jessica Mattera taking third. Our Kid Kart class was a battle of the Stanleys! Tyler Stanley took on his sister Kaylin, and in a fierce duel to the end, Tyler edged out Kaylin to get the checkered flag first! Sibling rivalry at it’s best! Settle it on the track.LOL.

In Junior Stock, which seemed to be the best show of the night, had two great young drivers going at it hard. Colin Belanger and Ryan Tani put on an awesome display of driving and respect for his fellow competitor. Colin took the lead on the start, and held it for some laps, until Ryan got it rolling, and these two swapped the lead back and forth a few times before the laps ran out and it was Colin holding on for the win. Ryan was right there for second, and Logan Cole was third. Great job guys! Isaiah Guest made his debut in this class, but collected the turn two wall at lap 7, he was ok,as I spoke with him and his father after the race, but the kart, not so much. In Junior 2, Tyler Belanger picked up his fifth win of the season with Derek Salerno taking second and Alan Selemba third. Our Junior Rookie driver was Joshua Gower. Please help our sport grow by introducing a young person to kart racing. Bring a friend to the track, post it on your Facebook pages. We need your help to grow our sport.

In the World Formula Modified Tour event, they ran their twin 20 lap features, and it was a very fast Tommy Kosch picking up the win in both features. Paul Pairo took second in the first feature with SuperDave Parker taking third. Dave Parker took second in the second feature with Paul Pairo taking third. In KT100/Outlaw Champ class, Glen Varner showed the fast way around the track in his Outlaw Champ kart. That thing is awesome to watch, could only imagine what it’s like to wheel around the track. Alex the Axeman Wanerus in his KT100 kart took second and Alan Salamba was third.

In Junior Slingshot, Damon Paul picked up his second win of the season in a dominating performance, with Anthony Recchio taking second and Matt DeRitter third. In Senior Slingshot, Aaron Bush picked up his fourth win in a row, with Steve VanValkenburg making his first appearance of the season taking second. Our Rookie Slingshot driver was Gavin McClure.

We are back in action next week and we hope to see all of you back here at Oakland Valley Speedway next week! Stop by the JK Performance Kart shop located along the backstretch wall for all your karting needs. Tires and fuel are available as well as rental karts. Race Report by John Sainz

June 1, 2013: Hot and humid afternoon at Oakland Valley Speedway and just before we were to get on the track for first practice, the skies opened up. Thunder, lightning and a downpour delayed the start of the day’s events. John Diotte and his crew made fast work of the track drying and had us racing in short order after it stopped raining. We were able to get to run both heats and feature to complete our fifth points race of the year. The first feature of the night was our Junior Champ class. An exciting start of the race, with Anthony Wood starting on the pole, then in turn three, Jessica and Samantha Mattera getting inside and going by him. Anthony was able to get by them both to take the win, his third of the season. Jessica and Samantha battled with Anthony Roselli and each other, with Jessica holding off Samantha for second and Samantha came in third. In our Kid Kart class, Wyatt Hager took the win over Alyssa Waldman. Our Junior Rookie driver was Andy Easop.

In the Junior Sportsman Champ 1 class, Robert the Rocket Mattera picked up his fourth win of the season, but not without a great battle with Johnny Diotte,III, who is getting better each time out there. Great race from all of these young drivers. Michael Jacques took third. Brendon Tymon, who was visiting us here today, took to the track for his first race on dirt, had an incident with the turn two wall in his first heat race. Took a pretty good shot, but he was ok afterwards. In Junior 2, Tyler Belanger picked up his fourth win of the season over Alan Selemba. In the Heavys class, Alex the Axeman Wanerus was hooked up and cruised to the win over Dennis Matthews and Thomas Radivoy. It was Alex’s first win of the season. Bob Clarke was our Senior Stock driver. Roger Guest was our Senior Clone driver. Edward Conroy ,III was our Senior Rookie and Joe Rhein was our KT100 driver.

In our Mediums class, which has been the biggest class at the track so far this season, was a great race between Roger Belanger and Alex Arndt. Lots of good racing behind these two drivers, with everyone fighting for position. Roger held the lead, through the restarts ,but Alex kept coming. He tried everything he could, but you could see him getting loose coming out of turn two, where Roger was able to keep his kart ahead of him. Roger held on for his fourth win in as many races. Great race! In the Lights class, we had the return of Mackenzie and Brianna Hasenflue. Mackenzie picked up the win in her first race of the season, with Patrick Kelly taking second. Brianna came home third. Good to have these ladies back! Yes, and you too Tom… In Junior Stock, Ryan Tani held the lead of the race up until the last turn on the last lap, where Colin Belanger made his move and got inside of Ryan and squeaked out a win. Great job by Ryan!

In our Junior Slingshot class, Matt DeRitter picked up his third win of the season, with Ashley Rogosich, in an impressive run, coming in second. Jared Silvernail, battled his way for a third place finish. In Senior Slingshot, Aaron Bush, cruised to his third win of the season, with Tom Johnson taking second and Bob Johnson coming in third. Our Rookie Slingshot driver was Gavin McClure.

We are off next week and we hope to see all of you back here at Oakland Valley Speedway in two weeks. Our St. Judes charity race will be run on June 15, and our annual bike-a-thon also. Race Report by John Sainz

April 13,2013: Let’s go Racing!!! It was opening day at Oakland Valley Speedway this past weekend, with our first points race being run. Good turnout of racers and great racing in all the classes. It was good to see all of our friends again and get the season started. The track was in great condition in spite of all the rain last week, thanks to John Diotte and his crew. The World Formula Modified Tour was in attendance as they have made Oakland Valley Speedway their home track this season.

Our first feature of the night was the Heavys class. Close race up front between Thomas Radivoy and Jeremiah Wagner, who were hooked up nose to tail for almost the entire race. Jeremiah waited patiently for an opportunity to get by Thomas, but Thomas never made a bad move and held off the challenge. Great run by both these drivers. Always fast Bill Wood came home third. Our Kid Kart class was next and it was Wyatt Hager taking the win, with Kaylin Stanley second and Alyssa Waldman third. In our Junior 2 class, it was Tyler Belanger opening up a big lead  and taking the win over Derek Salerno and Alan Sclemba. Our Junior 1 driver was Aidan VanDeBojart.

In the Lights class, Scott Bentley came down from Upstate NY to race with us and picked up the win. It was a great race with Alex Arndt right on his rear bumper, but he was not able to get by  Scott. Gregg Caldara came in third. In Junior Sportsman Champ 1, Robert the Rocket Mattera picked up where he left off last year by taking the win. Michael Jacques took second and Jake Mason third. Johnny Diotte,III and Arlen Devantoy madfed their Champ kart debuts tonight and both performed well. This will be a great class this season. Junior Stock was next and it was Garret Delaney taking the win, with Colin Belanger right on his rear bumper. Colin was driving his brand new 2013 Millenium Impulse from JK Performance Kart Shop. Stop in and see Johnny Diotte to get on one yourself! Flyin Ryan Tani came in third in his tribute to Newtown kart. Looked great Ryan!

In our Senior Champ class, Glen the Outlaw Varner took to the track with his awesome looking winged Outlaw Champ kart and put on a great driving display. We are seeking other competitors to come out and run with Glen. Come join him in the fun here at Oakland Valley Speedway! Our Mediums class, with eight entered, saw Dan the Man Hoeffner take the win over Corey Wood, who was right on his heels at the flag. Great race! Brendan Finley took third. This will be an exciting class to watch this year. In Senior Stock, Bill Wood was in mid-season form as he pulled away for the win. Mark Stanley took home second place with Scott Thomas taking third. In Junior Champ, reigning track champion Samantha Mattera picked up the win, but not without a battle put up by her teammate and sister Jessica Mattera, was was making her Jr Champ debut. They battled in the opening laps, trading positions a few times, and this allowed Anthony Wood to catch up to them. Samantha took the lead, then Anthony got past Jessica for second place. In the next corner, Jessica got caught up with Anthony’s left rear tire and got tangled up with him. Caution ensued, with both going to the rear. After the restart, Jessica made it back up to second place, where she finished, and Anthony made it back to third. These drivers will provide some great races this year, as we saw from last season. It’s fun, right Bob? Stay tuned….Anthony Roselli and Colin Reilley made their Champ kart debuts tonight and both ran very well. Great job guys! The World Formula Modified Tour stopped by tonight, and it was a very fast Dave Parker taking the win over Big Daddy Don Boonstra and Paul Pairo. Look forward to seeing these guys at the track this year as they have made Oakland Valley Speedway their home track.

In the Rookie Slingshot, Anthony Recchio took the win over Ashley Rogosich and Gavin McClure. In Junior Slingshot, Jared Labagh looked good in his win tonight. Tighe Sherlock picked up second, with Bobby Flood third. In our senior Slingshot class, Tyler Johnston was out there flying around the track. He picked up the win by a good margin, with John Bockhorn taking second and Randy Johnston third.

We are off next week, so we hope to see all of you back here at Oakland Valley Speedway in two weeks. We also have the RMR Series coming to our track on Sunday April 28. Come out on Saturday the 27th to get tuned up for the series race on Sunday.
